Welcome to the first online issue of ProGardenBiz.

ProGardenBiz is here to help you start your own business in the field of landscape maintenance. To help you grow that business into a profitable enterprise. To keep you profitable and, hopefully, entertain you a little along the way.

What's New?

Since bringing ProGardenBiz online we've added a number of new articles and columns to this first issue.

Perennial Profiles: Daylily Companions is a great article on daylilies. The Prerennial Profile series is provided by the National Gardening Association. Visit their website at www.nationalgardening.com for more great gardening articles.

Rock Gardens brings us a different kind of garden. Check the ways you can use those natural rocky areas. Written by Jackie Carroll, the editor of GardenGuides.com - a leading website for gardening information and ideas.

We also have new regular columns that will be bringing you new information each month or sometimes weekly.

Planting Tips by National Gardening Association

Just for Fun has several new additions; "Twisted History", little facts from our past, and new jokes daily (what's a little fun for?)

Writing Tips - Writing, marketing, and tech tips by Judy Vorfeld

HR Answers - For anyone who uses employees, tips on Human Resources and Labor Law.

The Small Engine Advisor by David Coker will help you keep those machines running smoothly.

The Yard Doctor by Trey Rogers, Ph.D. - Professor of turfgrass science at Michigan State University and a consultant to Briggs & Stratton, Dr. Rogers is regarded as one of the country's leading experts on growing and maintaining healthy lawns.

Straight Talk - Advice for Small Business Success is by Brett Krkosska, a well known business consultant who offers advice on small and home-based work issues on his website HomeBizTools.com.

Websites that Work - With the popularity of the Internet everyone is turning to the Web for marketing exposure. Make your website work with tips from Sean McManus, author of (what else?) "Small Business Websites That Work".

The Plant Man is Steve Jones. Each week he provides new information, news, tips, answers to questions, and more about gardening.

Ask Joe, He'll Know! Master Gardener, Joe Sherinski is here to answer your questions.

In addition to these columns we've added twelve news feeds throughout the magazine. Each news feed is customized for the column it appears with and will help keep you up-to-date on landscaping and gardening news around the world. The news feeds are updated daily.

These additions have doubled the size of ProGardenBiz and we are still on our first issue, with more to come.

If you have ideas to share with others in the Green Industry, write to us at editor@progardenbiz.com. Submissions of articles, columns, tips, ideas, or other features are welcome. Send us a description of your company, how you started and grew, your trials, tribulations, and successes. You could be famous!

If you have a web site and would like some gardening information to use, contact us. Selected ProGardenBiz articles and columns are available, with permission, for reprint on other websites or print publications. Contact us for details.

Let us know what you would like to see in ProGardenBiz. This magazine is for you and your business success. I hope to hear from all of you soon!

Happy & profitable mowing.

ProGardenBiz is here to help you become more involved in the operation, expansion, and improvement of your profession. To expose you to a wide variety of products,
techniques, support services, and other members of the green industry. Whether you are just starting out or a full-time or part-time residential gardener, a landscape contractor, a park's department foreman, a tree trimmer, a lawn care operator, a maintenance company employee, a landscape architect, a nurseryman, a general contractor, a real estate developer, an irrigation installer, a property manager, a property owner, an educator, a student or anyone else with a GREEN COLLAR, or someone who has some interest in the Green Industry, the things you will learn from ProGardenBiz will be invaluable.
ProGardenBiz is like no other Green Industry trade magazine. The main focus of our publication is how to start and operate your own landscape maintenance business. We're going to provide you with information and knowledge and that's going to go a long way towards helping you become a better businessman. Many of the people who will be writing for us are people who are out there in the field doing the same job you're doing, successful men and women, business people and professionals, all of them sharing their knowledge with you.

Each month ProGardenBiz will bring you feature stories and articles and an array of regular departments. All designed with one thought in mind, how you can make a profession in this field that is profitable, enjoyable, and rewarding.

You will also find information about the many local businesses such as lawn mower shops, supply houses, and manufacturers as well as the state-wide and national distributers. We are also going to be an affordable, effective advertising medium for small or local businesses as well as national manufacturers.

And... ProGardenBiz is not going to be dull or drab. We're going to be informative, useful, and enjoyable. We want you to come back and visit often.

And... we're free. That's right! There are no subscriptions, no charges for "private areas". All our information is available to read at no charge.

So, how do we support ProGardenBiz? With our advertisers and sponsors. If you enjoy ProGardenBiz, please visit our sponsors.

One final "and"... please write to us. Tell us what a marvelous wonderful job we're doing (or not), tell us what you want to read or know about. "The Mailbag" and "It Works for Me" departments are for you and they need you to make them work.

Interested in writing an article or story for us? Have some knowledge you want to share or a tall tale to tell? Great! Write to us today letting us know who you are and what you'd like to write about.
